Christopher Salis: My Career and How I Fared

I’m Christopher Salis, but most folks call me Chris. I wanted to take some time to share my journey with you—how I started, the paths I’ve taken, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Early Beginnings: The Spark of Curiosity

Growing up in San Mateo, California, I was always fascinated by technology. This passion led me to Purdue University, where I delved deep into the tech world. One of the standout moments during my studies was participating in a project sponsored by Melinda Gates. We explored human-computer interactions, and this experience solidified my belief that technology holds solutions to many of our challenges.

Diving into the Professional Realm

After graduating, I embarked on my professional journey with Adecco Employment Services. Here, I took on roles such as IT Procurement Manager and Strategic Sourcing Manager. These positions provided a solid foundation, allowing me to manage various projects and refine my skills in procurement and sourcing. It was a dynamic environment that taught me the importance of adaptability and strategic thinking.

The SAP Chapter: A Defining Era

In 2010, I made a pivotal move by joining SAP as the Vice President and Head of Global Sales for their Line of Business Solutions for Procurement. This role was transformative. Leading a team responsible for SAP’s inaugural SaaS sales was both challenging and rewarding. One of the highlights was building and guiding a talented team of 25 individuals. Together, we revamped processes and successfully launched new product lines, marking significant milestones for the company.

Venturing into New Horizons

Post-SAP, I felt a pull towards the burgeoning startup ecosystem. I began advising startups, leveraging my experience to guide emerging entrepreneurs. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to assist startups in navigating the intricate tech landscape and witness their growth and success. The energy and innovation in the startup world are contagious, and being part of that journey has been exhilarating.
